Crathes CC – Full Lawn Singles Competition.

There will be two groups, with “all playing all” in their group. There will be a “decider” when the winners and possibly runners up (still to be finalised) will play in a knock out to decide the overall winner in late September. To ensure “fair play” names were drawn out of a hat based on players handicaps.

Groups and Handicaps

Group A

Gordon Hendry (GH) 22, Robert Bell (RB) 18, Alex Burns (ABu) 20, Dan Walker (DW) 20, and Simon Robins (SR) 14

Group B

Alison Swift (AS) 22, Charles Henderson (CH) 18, Brian Clark (BC) 16, Allan Bruce (ABr) 20 and Elaine Mather (EM) 22

We will play off a “base line” of 10. When GH plays SR for example GH will receive 12 bisques and SR 4.

Format

– Matches will be full lawn  i e 26 points at Albury starting at 2.00pm on Sundays.

– 3 hours long. Time yourselves. After time called the person not playing has one final turn.

– Referee yourselves-but seek advice if another “experienced” player happens to be around!

The winner is the person who completes 28 points first. Failing this it is the person who gets most hoops. If both players have scored the same number of hoops when time is called, you play for a “Golden Hoop” i.e. continue playing until the first person gets a hoop and they are the winner. If a match is completed within the three hours please keep a note of the time the match finished.

– In full lawn with regards to “wiring” you must be able to see another ball unlike in short croquet where you must be able to see your own ball.

Logistics

The match schedule is based on member’s stated availability. It is fully realised that this will be subject to change so could everybody please adopt the following procedures to ensure that the competition can be completed.

If you cannot play at the time allocated contact your “opponent” and rearrange  a mutually convenient time. You will note that there are “free” slots deliberately listed in July, August and early September to cope with this situation. However it will be possible to find an alternate date if a) there is only one match on the lawn b) Albury appear flexible as to when we can play so finding a mutually convenient time should be possible (but not when it is a Club day and the short lawns are in use).

It is planned that the fixtures will go on to the web site and the site will be used to “manage” the competition. However it is important at the outset, that as well as letting the web master know of the date of rearranged matches (and results i.e. winner, hoops of both players and if won within the three hours the time taken in the unlikely event that this is ever needed to separate players at the final count!) you let Robert Bell also know  details of rearranged times and full results. Clearly the aim is to design a system that can be effectively  conducted on the web site so everyone can know what is happening including updated ongoing league tables, but as this is a new venture it would seem sensible we adopt a “belt and braces” approach initially!

Matches not completed by September 16th will be considered as “null and void” and will not contribute to  positions in the league table. It is for this reason we want to initiate the competition as soon as possible to give sufficient time for the rearrangement of matches to meet the September16th deadline.
