Sad News
I have just received the news that Roger Staples has died. Roger first entered our Tournament in 2014 and was a regular entrant until 2024, Considering he stayed in Middlesbrough this involved a considerable commitment which was rewarded when he won the event in 2023. The Club very much appreciated his support over the years. His health issues forced him to reconsider his tournament schedule and he announced that the 2024 event would be his last.
We will miss Roger for his great knowledge and commitment to croquet.
Bruce Bennet won the Aberdeen Quaich AC Tournament held at Albury over the weekend 6/7th September. This was the first time he has played in Aberdeen, beating last year’s winner John Henderson in the Final.

About Croquet
Croquet is played in 28 countries arounds the World.
Croquet offers an interesting and fun outdoor activity from March to October. It is a game of skill and strategy, angles, tactics and guile. The handicap system allows people to play successfully at all levels.
The current 2024 World Golf Croquet Champion is 18 year old Blake Fields (USA)
At the tender age of 58 years old Reg Bamford won his 6th AC World Championship. He finished second in his block matches having lost to Ben Rothman and Jack Good. He did manage to beat our own David Houston, although David lead 3-1 before Reg completed a tripple peel to win 26-3. In the Championship he won all his matches without conceding a set and tripple peeled all his winning sets (14). He must surely be regarded the greatest croquet player alive.
